Calibration data are obtained from a large number of first test values from each of several radiation measuring devices, which detect each radiation from each known radiation source. Second test values are collected from each radiation and each source in a distributed radiation material whose position is unknown. The second test values are compared with calibration data, and when equal, the position of each radiation source is fixed. The read-out position data are stored and so combined, that a visual display is produced giving the position and intensity of the unknown source. The device has a collimator, scintillators, photodetectors, and a direction-controlling gear-arrangement.
