Fighting armoured vehicle turret with crew accommodation - is protected with reinforced armour, and has barrel deflection compensation on firing

The gun in the turret is arranged outside and adjacent to the crew accomodation which is protected with reinforced armour. As a result the gun is arranged outside the vertical rotating axis of the turret. A turning moment is exerted on the turret and on the whole vehicle on firing such an eccentrically arranged gun. This changes the alignment of the barrel axis on firing. The resulting errors can be compensated by allowing the gun to travel on recoiling until the projectile has left the barrel muzzle. An unbraked recoil travel of about 50 mm. is sufficient for this purpose. Alternatively the angular error can be corrected by remote control.
