The character fields are divided into smaller fields which are arranged in two half lines and at least three columns. Each character consists of identification line elements of a specific line width. The number of identification line elements and their arrangement is typical of this character. The connecting line elements are thinner than the identification line elements and are joined to the latter to make readable numbers or letters. The line elements are position coded and full, half and quarter length elements may be used. The thin line elements completing the figure readable by the operator do not affect the machine reader.
