Lightweight recoilless heavy projectile launcher - has pressure chamber between throttle plate and Laval nozzle

The recoilless launcher barrel for heavy projectiles has a high pressure chamber whose rear end is connected to a convergent/divergent Laval nozzle. The lightweight launching barrel is made from glass fibre reinforced plastics, and is intended as a disposable equipment. It imparts initial acceleration to the relatively heavy projectile whose propulsion unit is ignited after leaving the barrel. The high pressure chamber is arranged within the metal sleeve in the rear part of the barrel. This sleeve accommodates the propellant and ignition charges. The nozzle is separated from the charge by a grill plate and bursting disc. The closed end of the pressure chamber, which has pressure reducing channels separates the pressure chamber from the projectile base. This arrangement reduces the recoil forces. The proportion of weight of the metal high pressure sleeve is low.
