The comminuter has 2 mutually parallel, disc-shaped, interengaging, contra-rotating discs with a sickle-shaped tearing tooth or teeth on a shaft. The discs are interchangeable; the depth of engagement of a tooth and the sickle space which it encloses are larger for materials which are difficult to grip than for easily gripped materials. Pref. there if a depression on the disc's periphery, diametrically opposite the tooth, such that the depth of grip is fully maintained when the teeth of 2 discs are adjacent. Different discs may have teeth of different gripping depth and different size of sickle spaces, on the same shaft. The front edge of the tooth is an oblique cutting edge. The cutters will dial with round plastics and sheet metal containers, and the cutting edges are useful for rubber and paper.
