Active heat flow calorimeter - for chemical reactions in jacketed reactor with automatic heat transfer program control

An active heat flow calorimeter to determine the thermal performance of a chemical reaction consists of a reactor with a jacket connected in the circuit of a heat transfer fluid. The temp. of the circulating medium can be changed, and the temps. in the reactor and the fluid temp. in the jacket are measured. A controller regulates the fluid temp. and a recorder registers the difference between these two temps. This makes it possible to examine exothermic and endothermic reaction systems under conditions approximating those in industry. The surface/vol. ratio of the reaction mixt. approaches conditions in practice. Isothermal, temp.-programmed or adiabatic procedures are possible.
