Hydrostatic torque converter for small vehicles - uses axial piston variable output pump driving constant inward flow motor

The converter consists of a variable output pump and a constant inward-flow motor. The piston drums of both the pump and the motor are placed on either side of a controlling plate and firmly mounted by a narrow sliding seating on the converter's driving shaft. The piston heads are braced directly against axial pressure bearings. Springs connect the ends of the piston drums to the driving shaft. A forked lever serves to vary the inclination angle of the control plate to vary the pump output by altering its stroke. The motor is mounted opposite to the pump in the same housing with a fixed inclination control plate.
