The floor covering plates form integral units with the supporting blocks below. These composite plates are made from rigid foam plastics. The material used for making the floor panels and its supporting blocks can be polystyrene. The plate units can be made by casting or by deep drawing. The edges of the top plate and of the supporting blocks are arranged so that they can be assembled by overlapping and forming narrow gaps. The covering plates can be welded to each other or connected by bolts. The supporting blocks should be relatively small and the top floor plate should be much larger than the supporting block sections. This arrangement is an improvement of the design in which chipboard blocks are used.
