Gaseous effluent from hydrocarbon sulphonation purified - by treatment with water in scrubbing towers allowing recovery of organics

Off-gas produced in sulphonation of hydrocarbons and contg. SO3, SO2, hydrocarbon, and sulphonated hydrocarbon is now purified by passing it at 0.1-2 atmos. together with water through purification equipment contg. gravel with particle size 2-50 mm, followed by conventional treatment in a demister. Materials and esp. organics are recovered.
