Flue gas washer in horizontal duct - with liquid esp. calcium hydroxide sprayed transversely to gas flow

An apparatus for purifying chimney gases, comprises a long, horizontal chamber with gas inlet at one end and outlet at the other; the entire chamber is of uniform unobstructed cross-section throughout its length. A device for introducing a liquid reagent into the chamber, esp. a spray unit or several successive spray units, introduces the liquid reagent substantially perpendicularly to the flow of gas. The continuous unobstructed cross-section and the absence of contra-flow lead to reduced pressure drop. No materials which can become clogged occur in the gas path. A number of different reagents can be introduced in successive stages.
