Calibration of chipboard panels - by moistening and heating cured panels, and consolidating at automatically controlled press

Calibrated panels based on wood matl., e.g. chipboard, are produced by (a) thermally curing the panels, (b) moistening the panels, (c) heating the panels during or after stage (b), and (d) consolidating the panels at a pressure controlled automatically by an empirically-produced min. counter pressure of the panels maintained during calibration. Exactly calibrated panels are obtd. economically. During stage (b) chemicals are added that effect plasticisation and/or bond free formaldehyde in the panel e.g., urea.
