In order to avoid the use of a jockey wheel to maintain the chain tension, the front and rear chain wheels are suspended by bearer arms in such a manner that the front bearer arm is pivoted in the front of the chain wheel axle and the rear bearer arm is pivoted behind the rear chain wheel axle as seen in the direction of travel. The rear chain wheel then makes a pivot movement opposite to the direction of travel and the bearer arm makes a movement which is sufficient to take up the entire chain slack thus continually, maintaining the chain tension.
