The rotary current generator has two coaxial armatures for a.c. current generation and alternate-polarity excitation magnets magnetised axially. for d.c. current generation, the excitation magnets are arranged around the armature in the form of pole rings, having alternate pole polarities and equally spaced. The pole spading equals the spacing between armature slots. The excitation magnets have smaller diameters than the armature. for axially magnetised excitation magnets the cylindrical poles are divided into coarse teeth around the circumference, or are constructed as pole rings whose axis may act as an axial yoke.
