Safety device for an elevating platform, especially a spindle operated platform where a lifting nut, which carries a lifting truck in a column, is guided on a spindle and runs with a spaced capture nut also on the spindle on normal raising and lowering. The capture nut under normal conditions when there is the constant, prescribed distance between lifting nut and capture nut lies against a stop and on reducing the distance, the capture nut comes out of engagement with the stop so that on relifting, because of the friction between spindle and capture nut, this nut turns so far with the spindle unit it comes into position below a fixed stop.
