The three-phase static inverter has its output frequency raised by d.c. sources connected in series with each commutating thyristor in each phase branch. A subdivided d.c. source can be used, whose end poles are connected one to each of the two commutating thyristors in each of the three-phase branches and whose centre tapping voltage is coupled to the common commutating capacitor. Each phase branch has two subbranches, each subbranch consisting of the d.c. source, the commutating thyristor and an inductor, all in series across the main thyristor. The main d.c. supply is applied over inductors to each phase branch.
