A functional unit consists of several plug-in modules which are plugged into racks by means of the multipoint connectors. The functional units are used in telecommunication systems. Within each plug-in module, two of several contacts of the multipoint connector are electrically connected by means of contact links. The corresponding cooperating contacts of the contact receptacles of the rack are connected, so that a test line is formed consisting of several contact links. The test line is connected to an evaluation device which comprises several connections. The evaluation device consists basically of two transistors and a defect relay.
