Monitor for tension forces applied to the child during a vacuum-assisted birth has a recording strip for continuous recording of the force, an analogue and a digital display of the force, and a digital indication of the time integral of the force. Pref. a key enables a separate marking, e.g. a lower vertical stroke, to be applied to the recording strip. Two plug sockets are for cable plugs for connection to the remote tension force indicator and force integral indicator. Information is available to the doctor during the course of the birth, so that the use of excessive forces may be avoided.
