Polyurethanes contg. isocyanurate gps. are made from mixts. of polyisocyanates, catalysts and 2.5-50 (10-30) wt. % melamine, based on the total compsn., opt. with polyols, blowing agents and other usual additives. Mfr. of coatings or pref. (semi-)rigid foams with the pores, for use as upholstery or insulating materials, requires smaller quantity of melamine than for halogenated alkyl phosphate flame retardants, and the instability of polyol/phosphate ester mixts. is avoided. The melamine is dissolved or suspended at 0-100 degrees (15-60) degrees C in the polyol, polyol/polyisocyanate mixt. or pref. in the polyisocyanate; the other ingredients being incorporated at 0-100 degrees C and the mixt. allowed to foam.
