Simultaneous flame cutting and continuous casting of slabs - using moving burner with electronic counters giving exact length

The flame-cutting machine is used for parting bars or slabs in any required lengths, using a measuring device. which moves synchronously with the machine and measures the absolute movement of the machine, as well as the relative movement of the machine w.r.t. the slab. The machine pref. carries one measuring roll moving on the slab and a second roll moving on a fixed roll located parallel to the slab, at least one roll being mounted on a trolley moving with the machine. The measuring rolls are pref. linked to pulse-generators and two-way counters so that the length of slab being cut is known and also the residual length to the surface of the molten metal in the mould. Avoids waste 'tail-ends' by indicating the length of slab left.
