The mfr. of a plastics carrier bag with a closure flap laterally welded to the bag walls and with an upward-bevelled front wall as a tongue to be pushed under the flap, and with two handles at the two inner sides of the bag, is from a half-tube length with one long edge projecting beyond the other depending on the flap width, in an intermittent, cyclic process with intermittent transport of the length. Stamped parts or notches are first conventionally stamped out and openings are formed in the projecting part of the wider sheet. Conventionally, two handles are welded on to the inner faces or the upper and lower lengths at the height of the long edge of the narrower length. The handles are then pressed down through the opening into a plane below the rest of the plane of the length and held there during further transport by a rail with andeasily-sliding surface.
