Propagation time of the reflected ray is a measure for the distance. A variable diaphragm is provided in the ray path in the receiver, by which the angle of view can be set to the required value, adjusted to the transmitter ray divergence angle; a suitably shaped pulse signal delivered by a preamplifier is applied to an input of an AND gate through a pulse widener and a negator. The non-widened pulse is applied to the AND gate second input, so that if a pulse is short, no signal appears at the output, so that if a pulse is signal appears at the AND gate output if the pulse is wide; it affects over logic linking the measurement results in the telemeter receiver.
