The motor socket or holder is enclosed in a hood or dome which in the area of the air inlet opening leading to the inflatable dryer hood has air inlet apertures which can be at least partially closed for controlling the drying effect. The air inlet apertures are formed from recesses set spaced round the perimeter of the dome housing and can be closed by segments or strips which adjoin the inside of the lower edge of the dome housing and can be rotated relative to the apertures. A stop ensures the apertures are never completely closed and although the air temperature is increased by reducing the total air flow through the apparatus the flow rate is increased owing to the smaller apertures so that the heat given off by the air flowing through is reduced due to the smaller temperature difference between air and the wire coil of the motor so that heat control is possible.
