The machine used for preparing straight bar lengths for subsequent bending into chain links draws bar material and straightens it while the bar is held at the cutting location by notching grips. The bar is straightened between the rolls of the straightening unit and is held between grips. The gripping and notching unit downstream of the straightening unit grips the bar and notches it in preparation for the final cutting in the die. The straightening and cutting mechanisms are controlled by a cam. Cutting and gripping tools are subject only to light loading.
