Cold-setting two component epoxy resin compsns. contg. petroleum and pulverised, expanded aluminium silicate stone, is for universal use e.g. adhesive for all materials except plastics, corrosion-resistant coatings for iron and steel, casting resin, etc. It is solvent-free and safe to handle. Bonds and sets rapidly at raised temp. and in around 12 h. at -15 degrees C. Weather-resistant from +200 degrees C to -200 degrees C. Bond to oil-contaminated concrete (e.g. floors) and withstands static water pressure in thin layers. Resistant to chemicals and alkalis, and impermeable to water and oil. Low cost due to high filler content. 1-150 parts petroleum and 1-5 parts silicate are used per 100 parts resin, together with mineral fillers. Low viscosity epoxy resins (e.g. based on epichlorhydrin and an aliphatic polyol) capable of accepting high filler loadings are suitable, with organic diamine hardener.
