Apparatus for collecting refuse in a residential estate with multistorey buildings is characterized in that each building has a vertical refuse chute column terminating at a low level in a respective collecting receptacle and the different collecting receptacles are served by a programme-controlled vehicle which circulates in a casing situated underneath these receptacles. The vehicle is discharged at a station which contains a general and displaceable collecting receptacle.
