Prodn. of NH4ClO4 having definite grain from and size by spraying an aq. HClO4 soln. into a NH3-contng. atmos., according to the Parent Patent No. 2332938, is improved in that a burning moderator is introduced into the HClO4 soln., or an acid forming a burning moderator with ammonia is added to the HClO4 soln. Suitable burning moderate includes Co, Cu or Fe salts, or ammonium nitrate, oxalate or tartrate. Mfr. of relatively slow burning composite propellants or gas generators.
