Holder ring for clamping a material, such as a surface layer, against the inner wall of a recess, especially for a drain shaft in floors or a roof where the ring is split at one point, is made of elastic material and has the end sections which can be so engaged that the ring can be suited to materials of varying thickness and/or recesses of varying diameter. One end piece is U-shaped and forms a recess going out from the edge and open to one side edge of the ring. The U-shaped end piece has a track or a rib in or on one of the opposite sides of the recess. The other end piece has a tongue, corresponding to the recess, with a track or rib running along one side. The rib is so arranged that it engages into the track when the tongue is introduced into the recess up to teeth friction faces etc. on one side of the tongue.
