Crusher for brittle cast iron workpieces has a feed table, hold-down and 2 tools with crushing edges, at least one tool being movable vertically relative to the other; the edges lie in vertical planes, mutually horizontally offset at 90 deg. to the direction of advance of the pieces of scrap. One of the 2 tools has at least one projecting additional crushing edge running parallel to the direction of advance the other tool has a recess opposite this crushing edge. Preferably the tool with the additional edge is the upper one. The lower one is stationary. Pieces broken transversely are also broken longitudinally at least once.
