Antiepileptic drug combination - comprising moxisylyte hydrochloride and reducing dosage of main treatment drug

Drug regime for the treatment of epileptic states comprises (a) at the beginning of treatment and for a certain initial period continuously decreasing dosage of a drug usual in the treatment of epilepsy (pref. 5-phenyl-5-ethyl-hexahydro-pyrimidine-4,6-dione (I)), simultaneously with (b) moxisylyte hydrochloride (4-(2-dimethylaminoethoxy)-5-isopropyl-2-methylphenyl acetate hydrochloride (II) in the dosage required for prolonged treatment (ca 5 mg/kg/day). Initial combination of (II) with decreasing dosage of a conventional antiepileptic avoids fits if (II) is introduced by itself, but the benefits of long-term therapy with (II) (mental alertness, ability to work) are retained.
