Furniture walls, panels, backs, tops, doors and base are relatively positioned and interconnected by plastics inserts which are placed in strategically positioned holes in adjacent components. Each insert comprises a central disc portion from which extend on either side two flank members which define a groove between them in which one edge of a vertical element is received. The top face of each flank is flat and acts as a corner support for a top. In one embodiment, the insert also supports a hinge part for a door. The hinge part being screwed to the underside of a top and the top and hinge part then fit in a groove. Side walls are further secured together by tie rods.
