The engine has a stator with an even number of slots containing sliding vanes. Within the stator is a rotor with a different even number of radial slots containing sliding vanes. The stator and rotor are arranged so that there is a space between them which forms the working chambers. The stator has inlet and outlet ports on either side of the stator vanes. The inner surface of the stator is a harmonic curve and the outer surface of the rotor is also a harmonic curve. The curves are arranged so that the vanes reciprocate with harmonic motion and experience low acceleration even at high rotor speeds.
