The pilot valves are alternately actuated by the piston in its two extreme positions. The pilot valves control the flow of the pilot medium which operates the main control valve so that it admits the working medium on one or the other side of the piston. The pilot valves may be actuated by push rods projecting into the top and the bottom of the working cylinder respectively and capable of being operated by the piston coming into contact with them, each rod being connected with the shuttle in one of the pilot valves. Each shuttle may control ports on a port face, and the pilot medium may be compressed air, which is alternately admitted to the main valve via one of the ports or vented to atm. via another port.
