The gearwheel type tool is for machining teeth flanks of gearwheels, particularly of inclined toothed spur gears, for example, gear shaving or swarfless fine rolling. On the tooth flanks from head to foot there are running grooves the walls of which divide the tool teeth flank into forward and back extending flank parts. On the outer groove walls there is in each case an outer area which is about 0.4 times the teeth height in width, and the connected area on the face side of the tool corresponds to the forward extending flank parts. This enables the grinding or cutting process to be carried out in one common operation.
