V-belt variable drive sheave with axial keys - engaging via low-friction non-metallic hoop to eliminate lubrication

A V-belt variable drive comprises fixed and sliding half-sheaves on a shaft. The hub of the axially sliding half-sheave penetrates into the bore of the fixed half-sheave and has external keys engaging internal keys in the bore through the intermediary of a layer of non-metallic material, pref. a wear-resistant and/or self-lubricating material esp. polyurethane or PTFE. No maintenance lubrication is required; the system has a long life, and fretting corrosion is eliminated.
