Welding powder for use in submerged arc welding has the compsn. 10-18% SiO2, 15-25% Al2O3, 0.1-2.0% FeO or Fe2O3, 0-8% TiO2, 12-22% SiO2 + TiO2, 0-3% MnO, 3-12% CaO, 0-4% BaO, 16-29% MgO, 0-2% Na2O and/or K2O, 0-8% ZrO2, 17-28% CaF2, 0-1% Cr2O3, 3-12% CaO + BaO, 25-37% CaO + BaO + MgO, and pref. contains in addition 0.04-0.6% NaCl and/or KCl, or 0.04-1.5 CaCl2 and/or BaCl2 and/or SrCl2 and/or MgCl2. Used for coating welding electrodes or as a filler in cored welding electrodes.
