Multi-purpose rolling mill - usable as a two-high mill with long or short rolls, or as a universal mill

Rolling mill has two pairs of U-shaped upper and lower stands provided with holes for four tie-rods which clamp the stands together, rest bars for guides and guards also being fitted; the width between the columns is designed for long rolls. The novelty is that a one-piece lower stand is used with two outer pairs of columns for supporting the long rolls, plus a third, inner pair with a lower height so the rest bar(s) can be fitted; the third, inner pair of columns can be used in conjunction with upper stands, having legs of unequal length, to house shorter rolls. The different upper stands are pref. made in one piece and a middle, horizontal frame can also be inserted for housing three vertical rolls used to make a universal mill for rolling H-section girders. This multi-purpose mill can be used as (a) a two-high mill with long rolls; (b) a two-high mill with short rolls; (c) a universal mill with e.g. three or four vertical rolls; (d) a universal mill with one rolling gap.
