The gas tight window arrangement penetrable by electromagnetic waves of the GHz range places the window approximately into the middle of a cylindrical waveguide mid-section which has a larger cross section than the attached rectangular waveguide side sections. The cylindrical waveguide section is connected to the side sections in a step-type transition and it has an electrical length equal to a multiple of the half wave length of the midband frequency. The distances between the transition point and the facing side of the window are each half wave length of the midband frequency. The ratio of width to height of the rectangular side sections is smaller than 2 and typically lies between 1.7 and 2. A bandwith of 8% is obtained at less than 10% reflection.
