A method of obtaining steam from a natural underground source as a useful energy supply, uses a double tube which is inserted in a borehole deep enough to reach a high temperature region, i.e. at 100 deg.C, at a selected location, water being fed down one tube, and steam extracted from the other tube, the borehole being protected from entry of water such as by seepage from higher levels. The steam supply is regulated by control of the water fed through the supply tube. The steam delivery tube may terminate in a set of branches or may be increased in size at the top and may be used for a circulatory type central heating system or may be used in a steam turbine.
