The missile is aligned at two spaced points distant from the centre of gravity by amounts such that on leaving the aligning system the missile undergoes a tilting motion roughly equal to the angular velocity of the flight path inclination, as in 2, 311, 760. The angular velocity of the tilting motion of the missile axis at the start of free flight is equal to the product of the angular velocity of flight path inclination at the start of free flight and a number which takes into account the damping characteristics of the missile as a function of its velocity assuming minimum hunting of the missile axis relative to the flight path tangent.
