The multi-purpose table cooker comprises an upper and a lower heating plate which even when partly open run parallel to each other to allow food of different thicknesses to be evenly cooked. A U-shaped bearing rod which is attached in articulated manner to the lower plate passes round the upper heating plate and is attached to the front side thereof by swivel pins. Support pins protrude from the side at the back of the upper heating plate and rest freely on the bearing rod so that the upper heating plate can move freely into any position parallel to or inclined to the lower heating plate.
