Flexible snap fit hinge and joining profiles - with arcuate engaging profiles modified to change joint stiffness

The snap fit hinge or connection is used for connecting panels intended to rotate relative to each other. The connecting profile is moulded integrally into the edge of a flat strip used for fastening purposes. The outer profile consists of a tubular edge section which is partly enclosed by a rib whose cross section is a circular arc. Into the space between these features is pushed a profile whose engaging curved edge cross section deviates from a strictly circular arc. This profile is firmly held in the arcuate gap within the first profile and it allows some rotation. Smoother joints are made if the connection is to act as a hinge. The configuration of the connection determines the force required for its rotation.
