The radiation emitted by the radioactive substances is measured by one or more fixed radiation detectors, and instead of the radioactive substances whose intensity depends on the intended use being located on the measuring device they can be applied by chemical or physical means to the object whose movement is to be measured. The substances may be added to a fluid whose movement is to be measured, and the radiation detectors can be installed at the ends of a measuring distance. The measuring currents brought about by the radiation detectors are converted electronically into speed readings and are delivered to an indicator unit.
