Transformer tank with corrugated walls - is made from single sheet material with one seam weld

The object of the transformer tank design is to achieve greater freedom from leaks by reducing the number of welds. The vertical wall of the tank is made from a single sheet of corrugated material. At each corner the sheet is bent, between the corrugations, through the angle required. At the final corner a short lip is bent over to form a contact face with the free end of the adjacent side which can be easily welded, for example by the argon arc or similar process. The bending is typically done with an electrohydraulic forming machine with bending dies to give the required angle.
