Conveyor belt lengthwise tear detection system - monitors fluid leaking from transverse hoses at intervals in belt

At regular intervals in or on the belt there are lengths of hose running in the transverse direction and filled with fluid or paste. If a tear occurs in the lengthwise direction the fluid or paste runs out of the relevant length of hose, and is detected by a measuring device emitting an alarm signal. However this does not occur as the result of belt stretch during use. The fluid or paste can be fluorescent, and resistant to the heat, cold and/or pressure likely to be encountered in service. Detection can be optical, and a light ray can be shone on the underside of the belt from a stationary source, its wavelength being shorter than the fluorescent wavelength of the fluid or paste. A separate stationary detector is mounted near the light source, tuned to the fluorescent wavelength, and recording any fluid or paste emerging.
