The purpose is to conserve the heat contained in household and industrial hot waste water, and use it by means of a heat exchanger, to heat supplies of fresh water. The waste water collecting tank is made of corrosion resistant material, and has concentric or undulating pipe coils, of metal or other material with good heat conductivity, on its exterior surface for the supply of fresh water. The waste water outlet duct is at the lowest point on the tank, closed by a valve which is opened only on attainment of a prescribed level in the tank, with control by a servo motor regulated by a floating switch or level switch, and closing again when the waste-water has run off. Foam-plastic or other exterior insulation is pref. provided for max. heat preservation.
