1472114 Refractory linings HOGANAS AB 17 April 1974 [11 May 1973] 16841/74 Heading C1J An aqueous suspension of 10-15 parts of carbon or carbon-containing slag-resistant material and 0À4 to 4 parts of colloidal silica, calculated on the dry weight of silica, preferably in the form of a suspension in a concentration of 40% silica, may be used to coat or impregnate refractory articles such as bricks, crucibles and muffles, or may be included in mixtures ofnon-carbon-containing ceramic material and binder, to produce refractory articles and materials of improved slag resistance. Carboncontaining slag-resistant materials: graphite, coke, pitch or silicon carbide. Non-carboncontaining ceramic materials: fire-clay, alumina or magnesia. Conventional wetting or viscosity controlling agents and suspension stabilizers may additionally be included. The examples are directed to: (1) a fire-clay refractory material composed of colloidal silica, calcined fire-clay, clay binder and graphite; (2) an alumina refractory material composed of colloidal silica, alumina, refractory clay binder and silicon carbide; and (3) a magnesia refractory material composed of colloidal silica, magnesia, pitch and magnesium sulphate.
