The carbon block of the assembly is located in a flat groove on the top of the pantograph with the bottom of the flat cut with a number of parallel, pointed ridges. The block is pressed into place at a set temperature and pressure to cure a thin layer of adhesive which takes up the spaces in the bottom of the grooves. The ridges cut into the carbon block for a good electric contact. The system dispenses with expensive metal filled carbon blocks, and with metal filled adhesive, which has poorer sticking properties than pure adhesive. Typically the curing temperature used is at least 140 deg.C.
