1453716 Belt gearing GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO 13 June 1974 [20 July 1973] 34840/73 Heading F2Q In a positive drive belt formed of a resilient elastomer reinforced with one or more reinforcing members extending along and thereby defining the pitch line with a succession of identical teeth 3 uniformly spaced apart by their pitch P, 4, and having a notional tooth width W, less than P, each tooth 3 has its flank surfaces 9 shaped in cross-section as the arc of a circle of radius W, 7, centred on the pitch line at centres 5, 6 spaced at a distance W apart. The ratio W : P lies between 0À33 : 1 and 0À8 : 1. The tooth flanks may be reinforced with abrasionresistant fabric. A pulley 13 suitable for use with the belt comprises a purality of cavities 14 adapted to accommodate the belt teeth 3. Each cavity may be constructed by circular arcs 20 centred on points 18, 19 on a pitch circle 15, the points 18, 19 being spaced apart the tooth width W, 7, and the arc radius being the tooth width W plus a clearance factor. In a modification, the spacing of the points 18, 19 is made equal to the arc radius.
