The plant pots may be made of plastic, clay, peat or other material. The grapple claw consists of a movable and an immovable flange; two grapple hooks which move obliquely in relation to the pots, and a piano-wire spring which holds the pots in their stationary position. The movable flange has dove-tailed or T-shaped grooves enabling the top outer end of the hooks to slide horizontally. The fixed flange has oblique guide-grooves for the other outer end of the hooks. The movable flange is connected to an angle on which acts vertically the piston rod of a hydraulic or pneumatic compression device, a mechanically driven cam, a shaft connected to the core of an electromagnet, or alternating drive mechanism. A guide piece consisting of two pins, pref. diametrically opposed to each other, enable the movable flange to shift vertically.
