Synchronous coupling with recessed round key as driving member - with automatic disengagement device for packaging machine

Coupling is operated by a lever attached to a round key which engages or releases the coupling depending on the key position. One end of the key is machined to about half its diameter. The driven member of the coupling has a semi-circular recess into which the key can fit when turned to its engagement position. The other end of the lever is fixed to a roller which operates in a track of a ring which is rotated by it. Braking of the ring relative to the coupling will turn the lever and bring the coupling to the disengage position, thus giving smooth disengagement of the drive. Applications for this type of coupling are the food packaging machines.
